On July 28th, the second community voted stuff pack, Nifty Knitting, was released. It features long anticipated rocking chairs and cutesy nik naks perfect for cluttering up your sims’ homes. While there are a lot of really great new features that come with this pack, it’s not completely perfect either. I’m going to walk you through a few of my favorite and least favorite elements from Nifty Knitting.

After the pack was released, there was a huge surge in homes designed for a longtime neglected age group in the sims: the elderly. This brought me great joy, since many of us, myself included, forget about our elderly sims that we once cared for. Although sims can start knitting as a child, the activity seems most appropriate for our senior sims.
When scrolling through the build/buy items for the first time, you’ll notice that there’s a bold, pastel theme. I’ve always been a fan of color, so this excited me, but for those who prefer neural tones were a little let down. Even though almost every item does offer a black, white, and wood swatch, it’s apparent that this pack was designed for pastel lovers.
Besides rocking chairs, my favorite addition to the game was the adorable knitted stuffed animals and hanging plants. Your sims can either craft these items or you can also find them when using the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat. They are such a wonderful addition to the game and can add so much character to a room. There are so many creative uses for the hanging plants and I’m hopeful that we will see more of them in future packs as well.

The CAS (Create A Sim) that comes with this stuff pack is very impressive. Stuff packs are the most affordable and you really do give a lot of bang for your buck. There are a few new hairstyles for men, women, and children, and knitted apparel as well. You can unlock these items by knitting them or you can use the cheat cas.unlockbytag SP17.
As far as gameplay goes, there are some really adorable new animations. I love that my sims can sit in the rocking chair and knit, read a book, and drink their tea. But my favorite activity has to be a one that is uniquely for senior sims. Elder sims can “reminisce” while rocking, which increases their “Fun” bar. Toddlers and children also have a special action called “Play with Rocking Chair” that offers an adorable new animation as well.

While I do enjoy the gameplay, they are still working on some new bugs. My university sim became obsessed with knitting and kept neglecting her homework. I know there are worse things she could do, but her love for knitting was affecting her school work and stressing me out. They have since patched a few bugs, but you may notice your sim whipping out the ol’ ball of yarn and needles at the most inconvenient times.
All in all, I really enjoy this pack. Everyone has their own taste in style and game play, so it won’t be for everyone. For those of you who love color and want to add more in depth elder gameplay, I’d highly suggest this pack for you!
